Grundy to lead Grant Thornton in NW

BUSINESS advisers Grant Thornton has revealed a top-level restructure of its North West practice.

The reshuffle sees current Manchester office managing partner David Grundy become North West managing partner, supported by office heads in Liverpool and Manchester.

Neil Sturmey will continue to run the 120-strong Liverpool office, while tax partner
John Loebl has been promoted to lead the Manchester office, which employs 300 and is the firm’s largest outside London.

Bolton-born Mr Grundy said: “We see strong benefits in focussing our management structure. We’ve enjoyed a strong performance in the last 12 months and are ready to push on in 2011.

“John, Neil and myself are committed to building on what we have achieved in this tough market, driving further performance gains and ensuring that we are maximising client service.”

He added: “Our commitment to the North West marketplace is illustrated by recent investments in partner and director appointments, internal director appointments and an extension of our graduate recruitment programme. Our clients are largely positive about the future.

“Yes, people know there will be further belt-tightening in the public sector but it’s not the first time in history that a willingness to take robust decisions and the necessity of running a lean, efficient operation has been a prerequisite of success.”

New Manchester head of office, John Loebl, joined Grant Thornton in Sheffield in 1986 before moving to Manchester in 1989.

He is a member of the national tax management team for Grant Thornton in the UK and of the national tax training and development group for the firm.
