Acquisition saves jobs of 20 workers at engineering company

CHORLEY-based specialist abrasives and machining business SAL Abrasive Technologies Group has been bought in an undisclosed transaction that has secured the jobs of all 20 employees.

SAL, which also operates a satellite office in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, has been acquired by Bootle, Merseyside-headquartered industrial supplies business Lloyd & Jones Engineers.

In a joint statement, David Parkinson and Janet Handley, former co-owners and heads of machining and sales at SAL, respectively, said: “We are delighted that the business now has a stable footing from which to move forwards and that the business will continue to be a great employer for skilled labour in the local community.

“We would like to thank our dedicated employees for their patience and support during this time, alongside our loyal customers.”

Jon Birch, managing director of Lloyd & Jones Engineers, said: “I would like to welcome all of the SAL staff and customers into the Lloyd & Jones group and look forward to making the business successful as we move forwards together.”

The company was advised through the sales process by Paul Flint, associate partner at KPMG in Manchester.

Legal advice was provided to the company, in respect of the transaction, by Richard Wolff, Partner at JMW Solicitors.
