Coup for Slater and Gordon as renowned IP lawyer joins team

THE former head of intellectual property and media at Bermans has joined law firm Slater and Gordon.
Steve Kuncewicz specialises in contentious and non-contentious intellectual property, media and social media legal issues, and works primarily in the creative, film and television sectors.
Prior to Bermans, Kuncewicz was head of legal at online fast fashion retailer Boohoo.com.
He qualified with Cobbetts in 2005, then moved to Ralli, where he spent two years. He joined Halliwells in 2010 and worked there until its collapse later that year. Mr Kuncewicz moved to Gateley as part of the deal that saw it buy parts of Halliwells from administration.
His recruitment is part of Slater and Gordon’s expansion of its business legal services team.
The firm said the addition of seven senior solicitors is in response to “strong demand for specialist business focused services” and widen the breadth of expertise available, ranging from dispute resolution, commercial property, business regulatory defence and compliance and professional conduct issues.
As well as Mr Kuncewicz, Anna Willetts joins from Dentons and specialises in defending both corporate and individual clients accused of breaching a range of environmental regulations including those governing nuisance issues such as noise dust and odour.
Victoria Philipson, who has been practicing with the firm since 2015 in its personal injury department, has now moved over into the dispute resolution team in Chester, focusing on contract and property disputes.
Victoria Jones joins the Chester team from Knights Professional Services and specialises in commercial property, in particular, the dental, finance and charity sectors
These recruits follow the appointment earlier this year of Tessa Leonard to the commercial property team in Manchester and Mark Alexander to the commercial property team based in the Preston office.
Mark Alexander joins from Vincents Solicitors and has practiced in Preston for over 10 years, acting for property developers, investors and banks in commercial property. Ms Leonard has a background in development and regeneration projects.
Stephen Lintott, head of business legal services at Slater and Gordon, said: “Our vision has always been to bring together our commercial property, company/commercial, regulatory and business employment and commercial litigation teams, to form a new business legal services group. This gives our clients access to a team of leading specialists in each area of the law.
“We are delighted to welcome our new team members as part of the growth of our business legal services offering.”
