Location: Salford Quays, MediaCityUK, Salford

Following the success of the 2015 festival, Lightwaves is set to illuminate MediaCityUK again this year, featuring a brand new large-scale commission, new work from emerging artists and presentations of work from across the globe. With exciting workshops and nine artworks,  Lightwaves 2016 will be spreading light to the dark winter nights for the next couple of weeks.

Date: Saturday 26th November – Sunday 8th January
Location: Chester Cathedral, Chester

From the end of November, Chester Cathedral’s cloisters will be filled with more than 40 majestic Christmas trees. Escape from the hustle and bustle of the festive period and lose yourself in the tree-lined winter walkways – you may even pick up a few ideas for your own tree!

3. 1966 World Cup Exhibition
Date: Sunday 23rd October – Sunday 23rd April
Location: National Football Museum, Cathedral Gardens, Manchester

The National Football Museum and The FA have come together to bring the glorious summer of ’66 back to life, 50 years on from England’s iconic World Cup victory. With stories from the people who made the games, played the games and watched the games, the 1966 World Cup Exhibition celebrates England’s success and looks at the legacy of the win. The Jules Rimet trophy and ball from the final are among the inspiring objects in the exhibition and new immersive technology will recreate the atmosphere of Wembley on that famous day, giving visitors their own seat at the final.

Date: Saturday 26th November – Sunday 22nd January
Location: The Blackpool Tower, Blackpool

Let your imagination run wild at The Blackpool Tower Circus with fun festive Winter Pantomime – Jack and the Beanstalk starring Britain’s favourite clowns Mooky and Mr. Boo. Watch Mooky the Clown bring this famous tale of magic beans and magnificent beanstalks to life. With comedy capers from a host of characters and an electric mix of stunts, this panto has been described as a ‘must-see’ this season.
 
Vienna5. Snow White Ballet

Date: Sunday 11th December
Location: Parr Hall, Warrington

Join Vienna Festival Ballet this December as their magical production of Snow White casts its spell on the people of Warrington. Based on the traditional Grimm brothers’ story, this ballet incorporates all the crucial elements, a beautiful girl, an enchanted mirror and a poisoned apple. With world premiere choreography, this timeless fairytale is ideal for the whole family, answering the question – who is the fairest one of all?
