£16.5m development of 188 homes gets go ahead

A derelict former Lancashire spinning mill site is set to be transformed in a £16.5m development creating more than 60 jobs and 188 new homes.

South Ribble Council has approved the plans for the home of the former Bamber Bridge Spinning & Weaving Company Mill in Wesley Street.

The Manchester office of national planning, design and economics consultancy Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners successfully secured consent on behalf of Countryside Properties (UK) for the site in Bamber Bridge, near Preston.

Simon Pemberton, senior director at Manchester office of NLP, said: “We are delighted to have secured permission for this development on behalf of our client.

“It will transform this derelict site and help the council achieve its housing targets.”

The proposed scheme is for 188 dwellings including 18 affordable dwellings, comprising a mix of two, three and four bedrooms, two storey in height, with some dwellings having bedrooms in the roof space.

Work is set to start on the £16.5m development later this year, which will create 63 direct jobs during the construction phase.

The mill closed in 1959 and the site has lain unused since, with demolition of the former buildings being completed in early 2015.
