Co-operative Bank maintains town centre presence with new deal

The Co-operative Bank has renewed its lease at Orbit Developments’ 1 Peter Square property in Stockport.

The bank, which has been trading since 1872, will now retain its presence in the town centre.

The news comes in the wake of announcements, expected to impact in March, concerning loss of management and head office jobs in Manchester and Stockport as part of the Bank’s three-year plan to rebuild the business. It almost collapsed in 2013.

It also supports the Bank’s commitment to avoiding branch closures whenever possible.

1 St Peter’s Square is next door to Merseyway shopping centre and just a couple of minutes’ walk away from bus and train stations.

The move has been welcomed by Orbit’s leasing director for Stockport, Rhys Owen.

He said: “We are delighted that the Co-operative Bank has renewed its high street commitment to the town and in St Peter’s Square, which is so central and convenient for town centre visitors, residents and businesses.”
