Travel Counsellors cashed in on January blues to tune of £48m

Travel Counsellors, the independent travel company based at Trafford Park, Manchester, has announced a record month of sales for January.

The value of its holiday bookings topped £48m for the first time ever.

January also included the company’s top-performing sales days since it was established in 1994, with the value of bookings exceeding the £3m mark for the first time in the company’s history on two consecutive Fridays.

This was followed by a bookings boost on the final day of the month when the company exceeded £3m in sales for the third time.

The most active day in terms of volume and value was Friday, January 20, which saw 1,402 holiday bookings at a combined value of £3.4m.

The figures represent a 21% increase in UK sales and an 18% increase globally over the same period last year.

Travel Counsellors has a global network of 1,600 travel professionals who deliver bespoke travel solutions to customers in the leisure and corporate markets. It offers first-hand destination knowledge and industry expertise along with complete financial protection on all holiday bookings.

Chief executive Steve Byrne said: “This is obviously really exciting news for the business and the industry as a whole. It is a promising sign that people are looking optimistically towards this year despite recent uncertainties in the global travel space.

“January saw a 16% uplift in UK customers booking holidays for the summer period between June 1 and September 1, which shows customers are now planning further ahead for their summer getaways.

“Whilst January is always a key time for holiday bookings, this increase also highlights that people are recognising the value in booking with someone who they can trust, who can provide first-hand knowledge and advice, and can be there if and when needed around the clock.

“This is where our Travel Counsellors excel and why we are optimistic our strong bookings will continue.”
