Toffees in big link up with The Open

Everton Football Club has teamed up with The Open ahead of the 146th staging of the Championship at Royal Birkdale in July.

The agreement is a first between a Premier League football club and The Open, which will bring the world’s best golfers to Merseyside this summer to battle for the historic Claret Jug trophy at Royal Birkdale Golf Club from July 16 to 23.

To launch the link-up, Evertonians purchasing a ticket to The Open between Tuesday, February 21 and midnight on Tuesday, February 28, using the online promo code 146thOpenEve, will receive a voucher for an exclusive Open Championship cap, giving Blues the chance to wear their support on the course during The Open.

The agreement will see the Club and The Open deliver exclusive content to fans in the build-up to the much-anticipated championship, including the Claret Jug visiting USM Finch Farm later this month and Goodison Park later this season.

Everton’s head of engagement Scott McLeod said: “This is an innovative collaboration between two of sport’s historic names.

“The North West is home to England’s Golf Coast and many Evertonians will also be golf fans, this media partnership will give our supporters the chance to get closer to one of the world’s greatest sporting events taking place on our doorstep.

“With some exclusive content planned with our coaching staff and players as well as golfers, we look forward to working alongside The Open on activating another Everton first.”

Michael Tate, executive director – business affairs at The R&A, organisers of The Open, said: “We look forward to working with Everton to help generate excitement for the championship when it returns to Royal Birkdale for the tenth time this summer.

“I am sure we will see a number of Evertonians around the course during the week wearing their exclusive club and Open caps as we watch Henrik Stenson defend his title of Champion Golfer of the Year.”
