Eco-friendly homes firm run by ex-City star goes into administration

An eco-friendly homes business run by former Manchester City footballer Garry Flitcroft has gone into administration and faces being wound up in the High Court.

Flitcroft, 44, who is also a former Blackburn Rovers player and captain and has managed non-league club Chorley FC, has run the business Flitcraft EcoBuild – a timber frame housing business – since 2014.

But it has now been taken into administration by G&J Properties, which Flitcroft is also a registered director of.

G&J has held a charge against Flitcraft, registered in Darwen Road, Bromley Cross, Bolton, relating to two portions of land, adjoining Tarnacre Hall Farm, Tarnacre Lane, and to the north of Garstang Road, both in the village of St Michael’s on Wyre, near Garstang, since August 2015.

The value of the debt has not been disclosed.

The administrators is Refresh Recovery, based in Skelmersdale, West Lancashire.

Administrator Peter Harold told The Lancashire Telegraph: “It is early days and we are still examining the assets of the business.

“Early next week we will be making a decision on how best to market the company.”

In 2014 when the business boasted 25 staff, Flitcroft told TheBusinessDesk: “I’ve got a (20,000sq ft) site in Edgworth near Bolton where I’m currently building seven four and five bedroom detached houses. I had three houses built with internal walls and fully watertight within 16 days, which gives you an idea of the turnaround time.

“We’ve got a state-of-the-art factory that is capable of doing £20m turnover per year. I firmly believe we are more than capable of hitting those targets.”

Flitcroft and his solicitors, GLP, based in Bury, a signatory to the administration notice, were unavailable for comment.
