Barrow business gets high-tech development grant

TECHNOLOGY development company SH Lighting has been given a £50,000 grant by the Northwest Regional Development Agency.
The Barrow-in-Furness-based business will use the money to specialise in the design and manufacture of ruggedised LED lighting systems.
The grant will fund a new research and development manufacturing facility, employing 12 staff to develop products for use in harsh industrial environments.
The LEDs will be used in areas including the inside of tunnels, on the sea bed, within radioactive areas at nuclear plants, and on oil refineries.
Peter Roberts, chairman at SH Lighting said: “The grant will help the company to establish the business and grow quicker than they had originally anticipated. This in turn will create skilled employment opportunities with long term prospects in the region.”
SH Lighting only launched as a standalone company in November, with backing from Derbyshire-based engineering and railway signalling group Signal House Group.
