Historic Preston building to become restaurant

PRESTON-based property developer Yousuf Bhailok is to convert a Grade II-listed former boiler house in Fulwood into a restaurant.

Mr Bhailok’s company Adstock Investments has been granted planning permission to change the use of the detached red brick boiler house at Preston Business Centre.

The two-storey building is Grade II-listed as it is considered an important part of the former Sharoe Green Hospital, which was originally the Preston Union Workhouse.

The restaurant, which Mr Bhailok will likely sell on, will seat 77 people. Half the building will remain at its full two storey height, while a floor will be put into the other half.

The building is in sections with separate roofs over each, so a small glazed link between the roofs will be erected to allow the first floors of each section to be linked to a common staircase.

Architectural practice MCK Partnership has developed the plans for Adstock Investments. Director Martin Wilson told TheBusinessDesk that the aim was to bring the building back to its original design.

“It’s going to be industrial in look and feel and be minimal to reflect the original use of the building,” he said.

The building had previously been made available as office space without success.

“We had looked at other uses but none of the others would work. We felt it was an ideal location for a restaurant, and there are not many other restaurants in the Fulwood area,” added Mr Wilson.
