100 jobs go on Deeside

NEARLY 100 jobs have been lost at a Deeside food factory.

Headland Foods, based in Flint, has announced it is cutting 95 of of its 400-strong workforce in response to a downturn in sales.

Headland, which also has a factory in Grimsby, makes own label ready meals for major retailers. It is part of the privately-owned Warwickshire-based Prize Food Group acquired by Montagu Private equity for £60m in 1997.

The company said it would help redundant staff to find other jobs.

The announcement represents another blow for the area. Last year Paramount Foods made cutbacks and the collapse of construction group David McLean Homes in October led to more than 130 job losses.
