Waste pays for Recycling UK

A CHESHIRE paper business has succeeded in increasing its trading volumes by 25%, despite tougher market conditions.

Nantwich-based Recycling UK sells waste paper to mills in the UK and overseas which then recycle it into tissue, newsprint and packaging material.

The company said revenues will remain static during the next financial year due to the lower value of paper and card, but it is on target to increase the amount of material it trades by 25% to 250,000 tonnes.

Much of the growth has been fuelled by large contracts such as a deal to supply Eska Graphic Board in Holland with 40,000 tonnes of UK local authority collected waste paper.

The business is also looking to expand by establishing a number of local collection franchises throughout the UK within the next two years.

Headed up by directors Neil Clarke, Simon Marsden and Steve Bell the business employs 10 people and has doubled sales over the last few years to £14.2m.

Managing director Neil Clarke said: “The reduction in the market price for recycled materials has certainly had an impact on our headline turnover figure, but we’re 25% more active than we were this time last year.

“Our margins have and look set to remain relatively constant and because we have contracts and orders in place, and the ability to pay suppliers quicker than our competitors we are able to strengthen our market position.”

Recycling UK has been working with the Chester office of accountancy firm Baker Tilly on its growth strategy.
