Irwin Mitchell "well placed" to thrive says Codd

FAST-GROWING North West law firm Irwin Mitchell has hailed the success of its two years in the region, which has seen growth in numbers of 200%.

Speaking last night at a celebration party in Manchester, NW managing partner Grahame Codd said the firm was mindful of the wider economic picture as it enters its third year.

He told more than 200 guests at the Yang Sing restaurant that the new Chinese new year had just begun and it was now the year of the ox.

He said the character of the ox in Chinese culture displayed a number of virtues, including being “dependable, patient, methodical, calm, hardworking  and great at organisation”  – which would be needed this year.

He said Irwin Mitchell’s North West office had grown from 45 people in January 2007 to 135 and rising since it opened.

The last year had seen continued success for the firm’s nationally-regarded personal inhury and clinical negligence teams.

Mr Codd said: “Over the past year have recovered almost £50m in compensation for our injured and disabled clients,”

He said the firm had grown in a number of other areas, including: in family law; regulatory and investigations; private client; commercial litigation and lending and recoveries.

Turning to the wider economy, he said increasing numbers of people were being affected by the recession, and the way forward is “through hard work with ambition tempered by being patient and calm and most of all – to be strong and dependable for our clients.”

He added: “Whilst it might be difficult in the darkness of winter 2009 to look forward through the economic gloom with any far reaching vision or insight – I do strongly believe that we are well placed to work through these difficulties if we remain faithful to our core beliefs and if we strengthen our resolve, our determination to succeed, not just for ourselves, but for our clients.”
