Last call for E&Y entrepreneur awards

THRIVING in the face of the worst recession in many years will be the  major focus of this year’s Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards.

Nominations for the scheme close on February 27.

Last year’s North West winners include Peter Cowgill, executive chairman of JD Sports Fashion, and Lancashire-based Zuber Issa, the founder of petrol stations operator Euro Garages, which is based in Blackburn.

Simon Allport, senior partner at E&Y’s Manchester office, said: “Entrepreneur Of The Year is more than just another business award. It offers opportunities to network and share ideas on how to tackle the challenges of the current market with fellow business leaders.”

Given the tough trading conditions, judges this year will take into account how finalists are adapting to the downturn, making the most of opportunities it has presented and their preparations for the recovery.

The UK programme consists of regional awards followed by a national final.
Each year the UK Entrepreneur Of The Year joins country winners from around the world in Monte Carlo to vie for the title of World Entrepreneur Of The Year.
