GMC prepares for move

THE General Medical Council has invited bids for the fit-out work at its new premises at Manchester’s Spinningfields.

The GMC, currently based on the fifth floor of the St James’ Building, Oxford Street, has taken 50,000 sq ft at Allied London’s £1.5bn new development in the city.

It plans to move its 340 staff to the development’s 3 Hardman Street from September.

In a tender document the council, which regulates the medical profession, said: “The continued expansion of the organisation and a desire to occupy office space comparable to the GMC’s offices in London and Edinburgh necessitates relocation.”

It added: “The GMC is now seeking to draw up a suitably experienced and capable list of contractors to enter into a competitive tender exercise for the fitting-out works.”

Developer Allied London has already let more than 70% of the space in the £160m building to a clutch of professional services firms including law firm Pinsent Mason, accountants Baker Tilly, BDO Stoy Hayward, Barclays and Bank of New York Mellon.

No value was put on the contract. The deadline for expressions of interest is April 2.
