KPMG joy at best big company honour

BUSINESS advisory firm KPMG has been named as ‘the best big company to work for’ award for a third time

KPMG, which employs 837 people across the North West, won the prestigious award from the Sunday Times for a second year in a row, and has now come in the top three in the category ever since the award was created in 205.

Malcolm Edge, chairman, KPMG in the North, said:  “At KPMG, our aim is to create a workplace where individuals are respected, where there is a culture of openness and mutual support, and where teams work together to deliver the best possible service for clients.

“These are difficult times for the UK economy, and for companies and employees everywhere.  The state of the economy may be beyond our immediate control but the way we work together is ours to choose.  A sense of shared values and collective purpose will be more important than ever if companies are to weather the storm.”

Over the past year, KPMG invested more than 1.4 million hours in staff training and development; 98.5% of flexible working requests were accepted, while more than 4,500 staff  contributed 48,000 hours working with local communities and causes.

Last month the firm introduced a new scheme, Flexible Futures, designed to minimise the prospect of large scale redundancies in the current recession and enable the firm to retain its talented people.

Under the scheme, staff were invited to sign up to the possibility of being asked to reduce their working week by a day with that day unpaid and/or take sabbatical leave of between 4 and 12 weeks at 30 percent of pay.  More than 80% of staff have signed up for the scheme.

In the UK KPMG has a turnover of £1.6bn and employs 11,788 people at 22 offices.
