European Mediation, which is based in Rochdale, is in the hands of the Official Receiver. It was appointed provsional liquidator after an investigation by the Insolvency Service’s Companies Investigation Branch

It is understood the company offered access to a European fund to compensate fraud victims. It is thought to have contacted hundreds of people requesting the payment of money up front. Some clients paid up to £3,000.

The only director of the business listed at Companies House was Christopher James Witham, 37, of Edenfield Rochdale, who was appointed a director in February this year.

European Mediation was only incorporated in August 2008. The case will be heard at a High Court hearing on May 5.
