Housing Units to launch kids’ store

HOUSING Units, the homewares retailer which has a 200,000 sq ft showroom at Hollinwood, near Oldham, has announced that it is to launch a kids’ store next week.

The store, which will be branded Housing Units Kids World, opens on Wednesday December 1. It follows on from the Coo Chi Coo baby store launched last year and will stock clothes, footwear, toys and bedroom furniture for under-10s.

“The time is right for investment, the niche is there, our customers want it, and we have the space to be able to develop something of this nature – and a likely demand to ensure solid footfall,” said Housing Units’ director Nick Fox.

“We’ve researched this market intensely, and have decided from the start that we’ll be stocking designer and premium brands and products – but a big influence is also the growing number of children who now have a say in the design and décor of their own rooms.

“The timing is obviously important; we’re gathering such a momentum and level of customer visits as Christmas approaches that we feel in a strong position to give Kids World a real kick start, and to be placed firmly on the map pretty quickly.”

Housing Units was set up in 1947 and has been owned by the Fox family since the 1980s. Recently-filed accounts show that the business increased pre-tax profits by 87% to £263,000 on turnover of £18.1m in the year to March 28.
