THE NORTH West has grabbed a major slice of the glory in a national retails awards scheme.

THE NORTH West has grabbed a major slice of the glory in a national retails awards scheme.

Manchester’s Co-operative Group won two gongs at the Oracle Retail Week Awards – one for product innovation for a petfood range – and the other for being the nation’s most responsible retailer.

The region’s newest retail destination, Liverpool One was named shopping location of the year, while Pets At Home, the Handforth-based chain was recognised for having the best customer service initiative.

Manchester-based Clare Weaver took the top individual honour as she was named store manager of the year. She is the manager of the Body Shop store at the Royal Exchange shopping centre.

Tim Danaher, editor of Retail Week, said: “Clare demonstrates strong leadership and motivation, the key qualities needed to inspire staff and guide retail businesses through the tougher times.”

MANCHESTER Out There Events has been appointed to deliver a northern roadshow on behalf of accountants and business advisers, BDO Stoy Hayward.

Out There Events is working with BDO run a series of three bespoke events in Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham.

James Bellini, analyst, writer and presenter of Sky News will be the guest speaker for the three events offering his views on how social, economic and technological trends will impact business in the future.

THE Co-operative Bank is basing a new specialist team in Manchester to work with charities throughout the North.

The team, led by Barbara Hodgson, senior manager, and based at the bank’s head office in Balloon Street, Manchester, will provide bespoke services and expertise to charities with a turnover of more than £1m.

The bank, which is famous for its ethical approach to doing business already serves charity customers include Amnesty International, The Arts Council for England, Greenpeace and the British Red Cross.
