Kukri secures major kit deal with Ulster Rugby

PRESTON sportswear brand Kukri has agreed a new kit and merchandise deal with Belfast-based Ulster Rugby that could be worth up to £2.5m over the next three years if the team performs well in major tournaments.

Kukri started working with the club at the start of the 2008-09 season and has extended the agreement to 2014.

The £16m business, which employs 110 staff and has its own factory in China, was reluctanrt to disclose the terms of the deal but it is understood to be worth between £1.5m and £2.5m.

Managing director, Phil Morris, said: “Kukri is delighted with this deal. It underlines our commitment to the sport of rugby and the Province of Ulster.”

Ulster Rugby attracts between 8,000-12,000 fans to its ground and competes in the Magners League and the Heineken Cup.

Kukri supplies bespoke sports kit to teams, clubs, universities and schools worldwide. It has offices in seven different countries including Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, supplying over 60 different sports.
