Hawkins-Salmon in administration

HAWKINS-Salmon, the timber and fencing division of Ensor Holdings, has today gone into administration.
The Manchester-based building products to packaging group had moved the division from Northamptonshire to Cheshire but costs associated with the move pushed Ensor into loss back in December 2008.
Then, chairman Kenneth Harrison said problems at the business had been “identified and addressed” with the appointment of a new management team.
But today the company said in a statement to the stock market: “Unfortunately due to a further deterioration in the market for timber and fencing products, the directors of Hawkins-Salmon have concluded that the best course of action is to place the company into administration.”
Paul Stanley and Jason Greenhalgh of Begbies Traynor have been appointed as administrators to Hawkins-Salmon.
The company emphasised that the proceedings do not affect the group’s other trading subsidiaries.
Ensor added that results for the year to the end of March 2009, excluding Hawkins-Salmon, are expected to be satisfactory “considering the current difficult economic climate”.
In the six months to September 30 like-for-like sales at Ensor dropped 10% to £14.1m and the group made an operating loss of £198,000 compared with a £1.14m profit last time. After stripping out losses at Hawkins-Salmon sales dropped just 1%.
