Bristol software firm snapped up by global tech provider

Kraken, a global software provider for the energy industry and part of Octopus Energy Group, has acquired Sennen, a company specialising in advanced software for large-scale renewable energy generation.

Kraken Technologies offers a tech platform that optimises processes for renewable generation, energy devices, and utilities like water and broadband.

By joining forces with Sennen, Kraken aims to streamline oversight, maintenance, and daily operations of renewable energy projects and improve its asset management capabilities and enable the development of innovative products and services.

The collaboration expands Kraken’s contracted energy generation and storage assets from 6.5GW to 36GW, marking its entry into managing offshore wind farms.

Sennen’s platform, which supports maintenance and analytics for various sites, including offshore wind farms, solar farms, and grid-scale batteries also contributes to the expansion.

Sennen’s team of 25 employees will join Kraken and continue operating from their Bristol office.

Devrim Celal, CEO of Kraken, said:“This acquisition is a game-changer for us as we continue to disrupt the renewable energy landscape. Sennen’s expertise and innovative solutions perfectly complement our mission to provide efficiency and scalability to asset managers. We are excited to join forces with Sennen’s talented team to turbocharge the move to a cleaner, cheaper energy world.”

Gaby Amiel, CEO of Sennen Tech Ltd, said: “Our energy system needs to be completely rethought and rewired in order to operate free from fossil fuels. With renewable energy capacity set to triple globally, Sennen’s focus on meeting the challenges faced by renewable project owners will be of increasing importance. Kraken is at the absolute vanguard of the energy transformation. Together, we have the technology to unlock tremendous value for our customers.”
