Work starts on hundreds of new homes at Somerset development
Work has started on the first phase of a development of hundreds of new homes in Wembdon, near Bridgwater.
Centenary Heights at Cokerhurst Farm is a collaborative project between Cavanna Homes and Martin Grant Homes to initially create 109 two, three and four bedroom homes in the vibrant Somerset village on the edge of the Quantock Hills.
Future phases will deliver up to 566 further homes subject to detailed planning approval.
A turf cutting ceremony marked the start of construction work on the site, which will include a mixture of open market and affordable homes. The Marketing Suite and first Show Home are scheduled to open in the Spring of 2025.
The event was attended by senior staff from both developers, including Cavanna Homes’ Group Managing Director, Grayham Tucker and Martin Grant Homes’ Chairman, Noel Grant.
Grayham Tucker said: “Wembdon is a great location for this new development that we are proud to be bringing forward in collaboration with Martin Grant Homes.
“The village already has great facilities and is extremely well-placed within a thriving part of the Westcountry. There are excellent transport links to the M5 motorway, and the nearest railway station is just a couple of miles away. We believe Centenary Heights will be a major asset to the area and help meet the housing needs in this part of Somerset.”
Mike Smith, Cavanna Homes Senior Development Manager said: “The development will include a number of green initiatives, including solar panels and community electric charging points available for use by all homeowners.
“High quality materials selected for their longevity, efficiency and performance will be used in the construction of the new homes, along with up-to-date and efficient building techniques that save energy and reduce waste.”

Together we are confident we can create a development that will be popular with home buyers and become a valuable part of the community in this area.”
Community contributions from this development have been allocated to Somerset Council. The investment will pay for the provision of serviced land for a new two form entry primary school, and a commercial venture, potentially a shop or other business. Large areas of publicly accessible green space and equipped play areas will also be provided, and substantial monetary contributions will be made towards education, road and local bus service improvements and rights of way.
