Property consultancy announces string of promotions in South West
Property consultancy Alder King has announced three promotions and a new appointment in its Bristol and Exeter offices.
James Jacobs has been promoted to head of Alder King’s building consultancy discipline. A chartered building surveyor and partner with over 20 years’ specialist expertise, James has shown commitment to growing the firm’s building consultancy offer over recent years.
In addition to providing services including dilapidations, building surveys and bank monitoring, James established Alder King’s Principal Designer service, working directly for clients or as a sub-consultant to lead designers.
James also has a particular specialism handling fire and flood reinstatement projects throughout the UK. He also acts as an APC Assessor, supporting the next generation of building surveyors in gaining their RICS qualification.
James now takes on responsibility for the entire team based in Exeter and Bristol. He will focus on growing the team to meet the demand from clients for building consultancy services and further develop the service offer as opportunities are identified.
Alder King’s planning team continues to develop strongly, winning a raft of instructions from new and existing clients. It has recognised two members of its team with well-deserved promotions and has also made a significant new appointment.
Jamie Wilton is promoted to principal planner. Jamie joined Alder King’s planning team as a graduate planner in 2018 and has since developed strong planning knowledge in sectors including residential, retail, energy and advertising. He now deals with a wide range of complex and challenging planning matters on behalf of clients.
Jamie is also supporting other Alder King planning graduates to help develop their skills. He also represents Alder King externally in groups such as the Bristol Region Young Planners.
James Tarpy joined Alder King as a graduate planner in 2021 and has now been promoted to Senior Planner. James recently undertook a part-time secondment with one of Alder King’s key retail clients. This experience gave him the opportunity to develop and finesse his skills and knowledge and further solidified the Alder King brand and its range of services with one of the firm’s most significant clients.
James is also active with the Bristol Region Young Planners group, working on the committee to organise a range of CPD and social events for fellow local planning professionals.
To add further expertise to its planning team, Alder King has appointed Georgina Nelson as an associate. Georgina joins from Bristol development consultancy Origin3 and previously spent 15 years with Barton Willmore (now trading as Stantec).
A chartered town planner with over 20 years’ experience in the private sector, Georgina has particular expertise in leading residential applications for greenfield and brownfield development sites across the South West, including sensitive AONB and Green Belt locations.
She is an active member of Women in Property and was a previous South West chair of the organisation.
Simon Smith, senior partner at Alder King, said: “The Alder King teams have delivered a very strong performance over the last year against a challenging economic backdrop. This is testament to the calibre of our people and the quality of service we deliver. Our building consultancy, planning, valuation and lease advisory teams have made particularly significant contributions.
“It is therefore very rewarding, as part of our career progression and development programme, to recognise the achievements of James, Jamie and James, and to welcome Georgina into our planning team.”
