Loan helps boarding school’s music facility upgrade hit the right notes

A Tiverton independent day and boarding school has upgraded its music facility with a six-figure finance package.

Blundell’s School, a leading independent school in Devon has refurbished its 410 sq m music department following a huge increase in the popularity of academic music courses at the school in recent years.

The transformation includes upgrading the 11 practice rooms and installing a bespoke music suite comprising fully automated digital recording studio, band practice room, complete with high-end drums, guitars and a fixed PA system; and a new music technology classroom.

Bart Wielenga, headmaster at Blundell’s School, said: “This funding is significant in helping us deliver the highest standard of musical education. Our students are at the heart of everything we do, and it’s our priority to ensure they have access to the facilities they need to thrive now, and in the future. Our new and upgraded music department means that our students now have spaces befitting the hard work and dedication they put into their music.

“The support we received from HSBC UK during the changeover was excellent, particularly from our Relationship Director at the bank, Paul Lane. It’s been refreshing to see the commitment they have shown in understanding the needs of our school.”

James Shepherd, head of corporate banking, South West at HSBC UK, added: “It’s been a pleasure to help fund the refurbishment of the music facilities at Blundell’s School, which will hugely improve student experience. Education is incredibly important in shaping futures, and we are proud to help inspire the next generations of musicians.”
