Plans unveiled for Bristol’s tallest building

People are being given the chance to have a say on plans which are set to transform a key site in Bristol.

Developers Olympian are planning to knock down a 1970s hotel overlooking the Bearpit roundabout in the centre of the city and replace it with two new buildings.

One of the new buildings will be the tallest in the city at 28 storeys.

The roundabout is one of the busiest in the city and has long been in need of modernisation.

Plans would see the creation of 1,900m² of new public open space – equivalent to two thirds of the site’s area.

Attractive and welcoming landscaping with a new central courtyard café, extensive planting and green spaces

Opening up views to the historic St James’ Priory, currently largely hidden behind the current buildings.

One of the new buildings would be for co-living homes, the other for student accommodation.

Of the 132 co-living homes, 20 per cent would be affordable with local housing allowance rents.

Bristol mayor Marvin Rees has welcomed the news of the development in a Tweet.

He said: “Exciting to see Olympian’s plans: new affordable homes, 1,900m² of public space, trees, and a proper welcome for Bus Station passengers.

“Transforming the Beefeater/20-storey Premier Inn site would also open up views of the historic St James’ Priory.”

People are being asked to give their feedback an online presentation and Q&A session is being held Tuesday 20th June from 6.00pm-7.30pm.
