Plans submitted for new business park in Somerset

Weston Business Quarter, Beaufighter Road

A new business park is to be built on the outskirts of Weston-super-Mare which will lead to the creation of 370 jobs

Developer Rockhaven has put together proposals for the construction of an industrial park on a four-acre site at Weston Business Quarter, located at Beaufighter Road.

The designated employment use of the land in the North Somerset local plan aligns with the broader vision for the Haywood Village development, which received outline planning permission in 2009.

While some industrial units have been erected on the site, construction on many is yet to commence.

The envisioned project involves the construction of six blocks accommodating a total of 64 units, ranging in size from 750 sq ft to 1895 sq ft.

The development also includes provision for 196 parking spaces, featuring 20 electric vehicle spaces and 10 designated for disabled access.

The units would be single-storey with a mezzanine floor above for office space.

This new business park could create more than 370 jobs.

In the planning application it said: “The outline consent granted in 2009 confirmed that the Weston Business Quarter, a sub-area of Weston Villages, is suitable for mixed used employment-led development as a whole.

“It is anticipated that the occupants of the development would be small scale businesses. The development is anticipated to create a range of between 112 and 374 full time equivalent jobs.

“Further indirect jobs will be created through during the construction phase, and the construction workers will add additional expenditure into the local economy during the build period.”
