5 things to do in the West Midlands this weekend

Colmore Food Festival
The annual Colmore Food Festival is taking place in Victoria Square in Birmingham on Friday and Saturday. The festival brings together some of Birmingham’s best restaurants, giving visitors the chance to try flavours from across the city. As well as huge amount of food and drink to enjoy, the festival also has cooking demonstrations, wine tasting and live music. Find out more here.

Miller Plays the Musicals
The Astor Big Band and Singers are taking to the stage at the New Alexandra Theatre this weekend. They are raising money for the Royal British Legion and will be performing classic big band hits from Glenn Miller, The Andrew Sisters and Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra. You can also expect to hear music from West End musicals, including 42nd Street, West Side Story, Les Miserables and Chicago. Find out more here.

World Championships Team Trials
The best of Britain will descend on Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium this weekend for the World Championships Team Trials. Athletes will compete for the honour of being crowned British Champion, as well as a place on the team for the IAAF World Championships in London. Over 700 athletes are set to compete. Birmingham Coffee Festival
Coffee lovers are in for a treat this weekend. Birmingham Coffee Festival is taking place across both days at the Custard Factory in Digbeth. The event will bring together 40 independent coffee shops and coffee culture experiences, including local businesses 200 Degrees, Quarter Horse Coffee and Java Lounge. You will be able to try coffee and food from all around the world, as well as doing a spot of shopping. Find out more here.

ZEE Birmingham Mela
The biggest Asian music festival in the UK is taking place at Victoria Park in Smethwick this weekend. Taking place from 12pm-7pm on both Saturday and Sunday, the festival will host a wide range of acts and will celebrate traditional music and dance. There will also be a wide range of food and drink to enjoy, as well as lots of arts and crafts for the whole family to get involved in. Find out more here.
