Hammonds announces new Birmingham boss

NICK GREEN has been appointed head of the Birmingham office of international law firm Hammonds LLP.
Mr Green takes up his post in May, succeeding current office head, Ian Forrest, who will return to fee earning as a partner within the pensions team while continuing to serve as a member of the firm’s Board.
Nick Green joined Hammonds in 1996, was made a partner in its real estate team in 2002 and became head of real estate in Birmingham in 2007. His expertise covers development and corporate real estate and he specialises in primary care, retail, hotels and leisure.
The announcement of Mr Green’s appointment as office head comes as Hammonds completes the £11 million refurbishment of its Birmingham office in Edmund Street. The ambitious project to overhaul the office, the firm’s home since 1963, began early in 2008. Hammonds’ 200 staff now have access to a ground floor café, an executive lounge and a new double height entrance to the building. The offices have also undergone a complete exterior facelift.
In the last year the Birmingham office of Hammonds has won a significant number of new clients including Quintain Estates & Development plc, Cancer Research UK, and the two pension schemes of international speciality plastic and fibre products supplier, Filtrona plc. Additionally the firm was recently reappointed to the Birmingham City Council legal panel.
In 2009, client highlights from the Birmingham office included advising on the US$485 million financial restructuring and sale of Chesapeake Corporation’s operating businesses to private equity institutions, advising Nuclear Management Partners on the £17 billion Sellafield clean-up, advising on the merger of Boots Opticians and Dollond & Aitchison and advising Dunelm (Soft Furnishings) on a multi-million pound transfer of their IT and telecoms systems and also on contracts for their new transactional website.
Commenting on his appointment, Nick Green said, “Ian has been hugely successful in leading the Birmingham office over the past six years, and I am delighted to be taking the helm of an office in such great shape and with brand new office facilities to boot. Despite the economic climate, the Birmingham office has performed strongly and we expect this to continue.”
Ian Forrest added: “I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as head of the Birmingham office and I am very pleased to be able to hand the reins over to Nick, with an outstanding team behind him poised for greater success as the economic climate improves. Nick has played a major role in the success of this office for many years and has the enthusiasm and commitment to lead the office through the next stage of its development.”
