Solar panel firm set to shine at engineering awards

A SOLIHULL-based manufacturing company has been shortlisted in the finals of the British Engineering Excellence Awards.
Aceon Solar, which is based on the Vulcan House Industrial Estate in Solihull, has been shortlisted in the ‘Mechanical Product of the Year’ category for its innovative Solar Docking Station.
The product is a portable device that enables the user to access free electricity on the go and is considered an ideal solution for emergency lighting, outdoor use and for emergency relief zones where access to mains electricity grids can sometimes be impossible.
The BEEAs aim to demonstrate and promote the quality of engineering design and innovation within the UK. They also showcase the worldwide engineering excellence available in the country.
Mark Thompson, managing director of Aceon Solar, said: “We were delighted to hear we had been shortlisted for this prestigious award and that our product has been recognised.”
Winners will be announced at the BEEAs ceremony on October 13.
The firm has also been named this year as a finalist in the Barclays Take One Small Step competition.
