Three more BIDs receive yes vote

THREE more areas of Birmingham will be designated business improvement districts after firms backed the plans in a round of voting.

Sutton Coldfield, Acocks Green and Northfield all voted in favour of launching the new BIDs, brining the city’s total up to nine covering Broad Street, Colmore Business District, Retail Birmingham in the city centre, Southside, King Heath and Erdington.

The voting pattern was 58% in Sutton Coldfield, 64% in Acocks Green and 85% in Northfield.

A BID is a precisely defined geographical area in which business pay an extra levy on their rates which then goes towards improvements and services.

Broad Street was the UK’s first and is now in its second five-year term.

The new BIDS will all come into effect over the next few months for a period of five years.
