Black Country Chamber to lobby Parliament

THE Black Country Chamber of Commerce says it will put manufacturing at the top of the agenda when it leads a delegation to Westminster next month.

Business leaders from some of the area’s most significant manufacturing firms will hold talks with senior parliamentarians on measures needed to support the growth of the sector in the region.

News of the delegation comes just days after Chris White MP, co-chair of the associate parliamentary manufacturing group, was the keynote speaker at a meeting of chamber members

Mike Dell, managing director of Ramsay Rubber & Plastics and chair of the chamber’s platinum group, said: “We had an extremely positive meeting with Chris White last week and are keen to ensure that he, along with other prominent supporters of the manufacturing sector in Parliament, are aware of what world class manufacturing businesses we have in the Black Country and what they can do to raise the profile of the sector within Parliament.

“Whilst many manufacturers are doing incredibly well, we believe there are still actions that government can take to reduce barriers to growth, such as reforming the system of capital allowances to encourage investment, simplifying research and development tax credits and reducing the burden of environmental legislation.

“We are looking forward to strengthening our links with the parliamentary manufacturing group and will be putting forward a programme of measures intended to support business as well as flying the flag for the Black Country down in Westminster.”
