Furniture retailer HSL opens new store in Birmingham

FURNITURE retailer HSL has opened new stores in Birmingham and Henley-on-Thames as part of an expansion programme.

The latest outlets, a 3,662 sq ft site in Hagley Road, Edgbaston and a 3,358 sq ft outlet in the Oxfordshire market town, mean Dewsbury-based HSL now has 16 stores.

The company supplies an extensive range of craftsman-built, handmade furniture, including chairs, sofas, recliners and beds.

Solicitor Simon Mydlowski led a team from Gordons’ commercial property department which drafted and negotiated the leases for the new stores.

Andy Brook, operations director at HSL, said: “Acquiring the Birmingham and Henley-on-Thames stores is a very important move for us, as they give us footholds in new areas and place us within easy travelling distance for many hundreds of thousands more people.

HSL plans to open another five stores in various locations in the UK in the next 12 months.

The company was established 40 years ago by the parents of present managing director William Burrows.

Mr Mydlowski said: “Extending its presence across the country is a fundamental part of HSL’s growth strategy. It’s great to be playing an important part in the development of such an admirable, family-run business.”
