Street unveiled as BYPY chair of judges

ANDY Street, the managing director of John Lewis and chairman of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership, will be chair of judges for this year’s Birmingham Young Professional of the Year (BYPY) awards.
Street heads up the eight-strong judging panel, which will put the finalists through their paces in March before the winners are revealed at an awards ceremony on May 2.
He said: “While the economy continues to present challenges for all businesses, including those in the professional and financial services sector, it’s important we do all we can to identify and encourage the next generation of business talent, creating opportunities and empowering them to play an active role in the city.
“Over the years, Birmingham Future has become a trusted and influential voice for young professionals in the city and the BYPY awards are a key component of its work – celebrating the success of the younger generation and providing a vital platform for their ideas.
“I’m looking forward to meeting this year’s finalists and working closely with the judges to identify the talented individuals whose innovation and drive will play a key role driving the city – and wider region – forward.”
Nominations for BYPY 2013 will open in January.
The announcement coincides with Street’s appearance at an event being held at law firm Shoosmiths’ office in Birmingham today at which he will update Birmingham Future members on the progress being made by the LEP.
In his address to members he will focus on the key issues that directly impact on the business and professional services sector.
