Baker Tilly in the clouds as it advises on cross-Atlantic deal

ACCOUNTANCY and advisory firm Baker Tilly’s Birmingham corporate finance team has advised shareholders of Hosted IP Communications (Europe) (HIPCOM) in connection with its sale to US firm BroadSoft.
The value of the deal is undisclosed.
HIPCOM – registered in Barford, Warwickshire and headquartered in Crawley – is a communications-as-a-service provider.
Building upon the successful adoption of BroadCloudPBX in the US this acquisition enables Maryland-headquartered BroadSoft to leverage HIPCOM’s extensive cloud communications experience for the strategic expansion of its BroadCloud PBX service in the UK.
Ian Wherry, corporate finance partner at Baker Tilly, said: “This transaction has delivered real value for the HIPCOM shareholders and illustrates the market opportunity in the sector.
“The move away from traditional telephony services to VoIP-based communications is widely viewed in the industry as inevitable and the deal signals further consolidation in the hosted communications market.
Allan Murdoch, exiting executive chairman of HIPCOM, said: “Baker Tilly’s assistance was invaluable in getting this deal done.”
Wherry was aided by, amongst others, Sukhi Johal and James McMillan from Baker Tilly’s Birmingham office.
