Traffic Alert: Fuel spillage causes long delays on busy motorway

The situation has cleared sooner than expected and all lanes have now re-opened.

There are no reports of residual delays.

MOTORISTS are being warned of delays on a stretch of the region’s busiest motorways following an earlier accident.

There are currently two lanes closed on the northbound M5 between Junctions 3 (Halesowen) and 2 (Oldbury) as specialist crews deal with a major fuel spillage.

The inside lane is currently the only lane open and there are delays of around 30 minutes travelling through the hazard. Drivers have been advised to approach the scene with care.

Highways England has said it does not expect the situation to clear until around 10am.
