Black cab manufacturer hails recruitment firm for new factory contract

A MANUFACTURING recruitment specialist has been appointed to help find some of the hundreds of new workers needed for the production of what is set to become a new global icon.

Consilium Recruit has been appointed by The London Taxi Company as its recruitment partner for its new £250m factory, which is being built at Ansty Park, near Coventry.

Consilium, which has bases in Stratford-upon-Avon and Stourport, has a division specifically set up to recruit highly skilled engineers, managers and advanced manufacturing technicians.

The Chinese-owned taxi company, which manufactures the iconic London black cab, will be producing an electric version of the vehicle at the new 80,000sqm plant.

The new vehicle is set to hit the road in 2018, although the traditional TX4 diesel cabs will still be manufactured at the firm’s base in Holyhead Road, Coventry.

The Ansty Park facility is set to create around 1,000 jobs and it will eventually have the capacity to produce 36,000 vehicles a year, many of which will find their way into new markets around the world.

Consilium director Steve Doyle said: “We are delighted to be involved in such an important project for the region, and for automotive manufacture in Britain.

“The work will involve recruiting for some challenging positions, but we have a track record of recruiting a wide spread of engineering talent with the advanced skill-sets required for the engineering and manufacturing technologies of tomorrow.”

Consilium, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, was formed by a group of engineering and manufacturing professionals. The company has placed industry talent into a variety of leading UK and European businesses, with clients including Jaguar Land Rover, McLaren and Bosch.
