FTSE tipped to open modestly higher on a quiet news day

PRE-OPEN REPORT: Headline shares are tipped to open 11 to 15 points higher this morning, according to financial websites, on a quiet day for corporate news with investors mulling predictions of sterling strength in 2011.
In America last night, the Dow shed two points at 11,370, the Nasdaq Composite rose eight points at 2,617 and the S&P500 added five points at 1,233.
In Asia today, the Nikkei was last down 69 points at 10,217 while the Hang Seng ended the morning off 157 points at 23,014.
Crude oil traded at £55.89 a barrel on Nymex and gold settled at £879.78 an ounce.
In a thin corporate diary today, interim results are due from Integra Group, Ocean Power Technologies and Polar Capital Holdings.
Associated British Foods, Bezant Resources, Churchill Mining, MJ Gleeson, Pantheon Resources, World Careers Network and WYG host their AGMs.
