FTSE tipped to open flat to slightly higher this morning

PRE-OPEN REPORT: Headline shares are tipped to open flat to slightly higher this morning, according to financial websites, taking heart from a positive session on Wall Street overnight, on a quiet day for corporate news.

In America last night, the Dow rose 42 points at 11,499, the Nasdaq Composite added 20 points at 2,637 and the S&P500 gained eight points at 1,243.

In Asia today, the Nikkei was recently down 25 points at 10,286, while the Hang Seng ended the morning off 62 points at 22,607.

Crude oil traded at £56.53 a barrel on Nymex and gold settled at £880.33 an ounce.

In a quiet corporate diary today, interim results are due from Alpha Strategic, while final results are due from Jersey Electricity.

Trading statements are expected from Aggreko, Keller Group and National Express Group.

Henderson Far East Income, Kedco, Schroder Oriental Income Fund, Sportingbet, Standard Life Equity Income Trust and Uranium Resources host their AGMs.
