FTSE tipped to open flat on the lack of earnings news
PRE-OPEN REPORT: Headline shares are tipped to open little changed, according to financial websites, on a day bereft of earnings news, with weaker metals and oil prices predicted to have a dampening effect.
In America last night, the Dow fell 26 points at 11,697, the Nasdaq Composite rose eight points at 2,710 and the S&P500 shed three points at 1,274.
In Asia today, the Nikkei was recently up 20 points at 10,550, while the Hang Seng ended the morning ahead 21 points at 23,807.
Crude oil traded at £57.59 a barrel on Nymex while gold settled at £887.70 an ounce.
In a thin corporate diary today, trading statements are expected from housebuilder Persimmon and recruitment firm Robert Walters.
