DBK making beds with quartet of hotel contract wins

BIRMINGHAM-based cost and project management consultancy DBK has been appointed to help progress a new £8m hotel development in Wolverhampton city centre.

The contract is one of four tenders won by the city centre practice on hotel projects across the West Midlands.

Work by Worcestershire firm Cordwell Property Group is expected to start on the 132-bed Hampton by Hilton Hotel in the spring after planning permission was secured in November.

It will replace the 33-bedroom Fox Hotel, on the Penn Island to the south of Wolverhampton city centre, with DBK providing cost management, employer’s agent and construction, design and management co-ordination services.

DBK is also helping to deliver three projects for budget hotel chain Travelodge in Birmingham, Solihull and Rugby respectively. The quartet of schemes totals of 600 new hotel beds.

In Birmingham, it is providing cost management and employer’s agent services to Gallan Developments for an £8m, 210-bed Travelodge hotel next to the Bullring shopping centre.

At Birmingham Airport, the company is providing employer’s agent services to Anglo Holt Construction’s development arm in respect of a new 200-bed hotel.

The £7.1m project, which is due for completion in the summer, will be the second largest hotel within the perimeter boundary of the airport.

Finally, the third Travelodge has just completed at the former Rugby Cattle Market site near the town centre.

Again, DBK provided cost management and employer’s agent services for the 72-bed complex which was built by a joint venture between PLK Properties and Anglo Holt Construction.

  • In a separate announcement, DBK has been selected as a preferred consultant and part of Wrekin Housing Trust’s framework agreement. The Wrekin Housing Trust is a social landlord with over 11,000 residential properties to rent across in the Telford and Newport area.
