Eastern Airways revises operation at Birmingham Airport

EASTERN Airways is to switch all of its flights at Birmingham Airport from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 from next month.
The move, on February 8, coincides with the opening of the airport’s new centralised security facility.
The airline said that following the move, all its passengers would have access to a dedicated fast track security channel to avoid the usual queues.
Eastern will also have a prominent new check-in position in Terminal 2, which will serve passengers checking in for its three times a day weekday service to Newcastle.
Roger Hage, Eastern Airways ground operations manager, said: “Terminal 2 is primarily used by airlines flying to domestic and European short haul destinations and it makes sense for our cross country business-focused flights to operate from this terminal.
“This switch helps reduce the time and distance between check-in and gate and emphasises Eastern Airways commitment to offering a convenient quality airport product to mirror the complimentary in-flight service.”
Passengers flying on the airline’s services from Birmingham to Newcastle will now have an extended check-in window with gates closing just 20 minutes before scheduled departure times.
Eastern Airways first started services from Birmingham in 2003 and currently offers 15 departures a week. The airline is the UK’s second largest regional carrier and has a fleet of 30 aircraft flying from 21 airports in the UK, Ireland, Norway and France.
It currently operates more than 800 flights a week from airports including Aberdeen, Bergen, in Norway, Bordeaux, Bristol, Cardiff, Dijon, Donegal, Durham Tees Valley, East Midlands, Humberside, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, Newcastle, Norwich, Scatsta, Southampton, Stavanger, also Norway, Stornoway, Toulouse and Wick.
The airline’s fleet comprises 50-seater Saab 2000, 37-seater Embraer 135 and 29-seater British Aerospace Jetstream 41 aircraft.
