Eco buildings come under conference spotlight

THE Government’s chief construction advisor Paul Morrell is one of several green housing experts due to talk at an event at Coventry University next week.

Hosted in the institute’s TechnoCentre, the ‘Wireless Sensing for Smart Buildings’ conference aims to highlight the importance of energy-efficient buildings to the UK’s green agenda.

The one-day conference on February 10 will discuss the need for technologies which can help evaluate the energy consumption of new and existing buildings by using wireless sensor networks.

The event, which is open to anyone working in the construction industry, will bring together the wireless sensing community, the building industry, property owners, data centres and retailers.

It aims to explore the information requirements of the building community and consider the suitability and opportunities for using WSNs.

Guest speakers include Duncan Wilson from engineering firm Arup, John Barnham of Orbit Housing Association and Maurizio Pilu of the Technology Strategy Board.

The conference has been organised by the Electronics, Sensors and Photonic Knowledge Transfer Network with support from the Modern Built Environment Knowledge Transfer Network.
