Tipton food manufacturer shortlisted for award

A BLACK Country food manufacturer has been shortlisted to fly the flag for the West Midlands in this year’s Food Processing Awards.

Tipton based BHJ UK Protein Foods has been selected as a finalist in the Company of the Year category.

The meat protein ingredients manufacturer will go head to head with fellow manufacturers WERMA, Festo and Winkworth Group to win the top title, which was presented to Bosch Rexroth in 2010.

Richard Parnell, sales director of BHJ UK, said: “We’re delighted to be recognised and take our place alongside fellow manufacturing specialists in the industry.

“To be one of the four finalists in such a fiercely contested category is a real honour and it is a testament to our success as a company.”

BHJ UK has more than 30 years’ experience developing functional proteins for meat manufacturers and it now has a vast product portfolio offering direct benefits such as reduced formulation costs and improved product texture.

It became the first British Quality Assured Pork-approved producer in its sector in 2007, and 2010 saw it renew the accreditation for its DRINDE – dehydrated commercial rind –  range for the third consecutive year.

Made from 100% British pork product, DRINDE® is a versatile functional meat ingredient which helps bind fat and water while delivering excellent textural properties and value in pork-based products.

The awards, which are now in their 28th year, take place on June 23 at Hinckley Island Hotel, Leicestershire.  Organised by Food Processing Magazine, the awards recognise the achievements of manufacturers working in the food and beverage industry.
