Burke steps up to chair M&B

MITCHELLS & Butlers has announced the appointment of Simon Burke as non-executive chairman, following the announcement last month of the resignation of John Lovering.

Mr Lovering had served for less than a year when he announced his decision to quit just before the pubco’s AGM in January.

Mr Burke joined the Board in January 2010 as a deputy chairman and non-executive director.  He is also Chairman of HobbyCraft and a non-executive director of the BBC Executive Board.

The board said it was continuing its search for more non-execs.

Mr Burke said “I would like to pay tribute to John for the significant advances he has overseen at Mitchells & Butlers in the past year.  We thank him and wish him well for the future.  I am delighted to take on this role and I plan to continue the progress in pursuing our strategy.”

Mr Lovering said:  “Simon has the experience and energy to take the Company forward and I am delighted he has accepted this appointment.  I hand over confident that Mitchells & Butlers’ strategy will be successfully implemented and wish the Company and its management team a bright future.”
