Rolls-Royce wins Norwegian engine contract

AEROSPACE manufacturer Rolls-Royce has won a contract with airline operator Norwegian to supply it with Trent 1000 engines.
The deal comprises engines to power nine Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft and a £275m long-term engine services contract.
This is the first time Norwegian has selected engines from the Derby-based manufacturer and this latest order takes the total number of airlines that have selected the Trent 1000 to 21.
Rolls-Royce said it had been chosen for six of the last seven Boeing 787 Dreamliner engine selections.
The Trent 1000, which was specifically designed and optimised for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, will power the aircraft’s first passenger service with All Nippon Airways later this year.
The engine also powered the first flight of the aircraft in December 2009.
Dan Pedley, Rolls-Royce’s vice-president of European customer business, said: “This order begins what I firmly believe will be a very strong partnership between Rolls-Royce and Norwegian.
“We are delighted the airline will be joining our family of Trent operators, selecting world-leading technology and support.”
In addition, Rolls-Royce and Daimler AG have today launched their public tender offer for German engine supplier Tognum AG.
Tognum shareholders can tender shares from today until May 18 with an offer price of approximately £20 per share.
