50 jobs lost as Stoke construction firm folds

A CIVIL engineering firm based near Stoke-on-Trent has gone into administration with the loss of 50 jobs.

Cheadle-based DW Roberts Construction, which specialised in groundworks for house building firms, was hit by the downturn in the housing market.

Graham Bushby and Guy Mander, partners at the accountancy firm Baker Tilly have been appointed joint administrators at the family-owned firm which was established in 1978.

Mr Bushby said: “Like many in the building sector, DW Roberts Construction has experienced difficult trading conditions since the downturn in the house building sector from 2008.

“Due to lack of funding the business has ceased trading and all the staff have regrettably been made redundant. However, there are a number of potential purchasers and we are hoping that we may be able to secure a sale of the business and assets in due course.”
