Hospice challenge to business world’s money-makers

COMPANIES across Birmingham and Sandwell are being challenged to prove their business acumen by turning £50 into significant funds for St Mary’s Hospice.

In a 15-week battle, businesses are being invited to compete to become Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice’s Accumulator Challenge Champion.

Several companies from the banking, legal, education and logistics sectors have already signed up. The initiative is part of a move by the charity to forge closer links with the business community in the area it serves.

Participants will be given a £50 stake to use to accumulate as much money as they can by fundraising legally and ethically in just 15 weeks.

Hospice head of fundraising and marketing Caroline Taylor said: “Birmingham St Mary’s is committed to developing strong partnerships with companies in Birmingham and Sandwell, and the Accumulator Challenge is part of that commitment.

“Additionally, an association with one of region’s most cherished local charities is a great way to build your brand. So I would like to lay down the gauntlet to companies across Birmingham and Sandwell to see who can become our first ever Accumulator Challenge Champion.”

Businesses interested in taking part can attend the launch at the Mint Hotel at Brindleyplace, Birmingham at 2pm on Friday May 6.

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice serves a population of 1.4 million in Birmingham and Sandwell, annually caring for around 1,000 people with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, motor neurone disease and multiple sclerosis. In addition to NHS funding, the charity needs to raise more than £2 million through public donations.

Birmingham St Mary’s also runs a day hospice, which offers therapy, reassurance and friendship and allows carers to enjoy some much-needed free time.

If you are interested in signing up for the challenge, Theresa Meek would love to hear from you at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice on 0121 472 1191 or email theresa.meek@bsmh.org.uk.
