Chief executive hits road to Paris

THE chief executive of the Edgbaston Priory tennis and squash club in Birmingham is cycling to France next week. Robert Bray will be joined by long-standing club member Peter Verow on the 325-mile trip from Wimble to Roland Garros, the home of the French Open tennis championship in Paris. The duo, who will go via Dover, Calais, Arras and Compiègne, is attempting to raise money for the Tennis First Charitable Trust. The charity attempts to helps young players throughout the UK who are aiming to reach a senior world ranking of 250 or better by administering grants to go towards coaching, travel expenses and training. They will be joined by around 20 other cyclists, many of whom are associated with the charity, and will be covering the cost of the trip themselves. At least 50% of the money raised by Mr Bray and Mr Verow will be granted to players on the Priory’s high performance tennis programme.

Solicitors raises over £1k for Breast Cancer Care

STOURBRIDGE-based Talbots Solicitors handed over nearly £1,300 to the Breast Cancer Care charity. The money was raised after the practice took part in ‘Will Aid’ and ran a fund-raising campaign. Will Aid is an initiative whereby people are encouraged to make a donation instead of paying a fee when a solicitor writes a will for them.

Midnight moves for training group staff

STAFF at Black Country Training Group are aiming to raise more than £1,000 for the Mary Stevens Hospice when they take part in a midnight walk. Nine women from the Oldbury-based company will head out on Saturday. Now in its third year, the walk has two new routes starting from Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club. Walkers are invited to wear fancy dress or pink flashing bunny ears and can choose a 6.5-mile route or a nine-mile route.
